What have 15 years of working with defenders, movements and partners around the world taught us about protection, resilience and sustaining social change?
To mark our anniversary, we’re sharing 15 lessons that have challenged our assumptions, shaped our approach and informed our vision for regenerative protection. Across three articles, we explore why protection starts with people, how care and collective approaches sustain resilience, and what it takes to build the organisations and systems that make long-term protection possible.
Part 1: protection starts with people
Why effective protection must be grounded in trust, local knowledge, context and shared power, and why it needs to go beyond responding to immediate threats.
Part 2: protection that sustains collective resilience
Why care is a strategic necessity, protection is a shared responsibility, and specialist support must strengthen rather than replace local leadership.
Part 3: building the infrastructure
What we’ve learnt about organisational resilience, financial stewardship, investing in people and working together to strengthen the wider protection ecosystem.
