The past year has been marked by profound challenges and widespread suffering for communities across the globe. Against this backdrop, Open Briefing received 575 calls for assistance from grassroots activists, community groups, and social movements at risk in 2024. This marks a 66% increase in cases over the past two years. Despite this surge in demand, we continue to provide timely and highly-effective support - delivering over 6,000 hours of holistic security mentoring and accompaniment across 100 countries last year.

Open Briefing is a unique non-profit that provides human rights defenders and other civic actors at risk with mentoring, capacity building and multilingual resources to improve their safety and security, digital security, and wellbeing and resilience. As a social enterprise, we also help charities, grantmakers, and social businesses understand and meet their risk management, duty of care, data protection, and safeguarding commitments.

Crucially our support resulted in significant positive impacts for our beneficiaries, clients, and users around the world, including:

Open Briefing launches 2017-18 annual report
The nature of our work protecting human rights defenders and humanitarians means that we operate largely behind the scenes. Nonetheless, our new annual report attempts to outline the considerable impact that Open Briefing is having around the world; an impact way beyond what our size and budget would suggest possible. The report also sets out our plans for the next 12 months.
Open Briefing publishes its 2016-17 annual report
Over the last 12 months, Open Briefing has undertaken a diverse range of new activities in a short amount of time, which has required a considerable degree of internal organisational focus. We are proud that during this time we have managed to maintain the level of external activity that we have. We have now published our annual report for 2016-17, which outlines some of our key successes.
