Portuguese-speaking holistic security consultants urgently wanted

Following a major grant and growing demand, particularly from environmental defenders in the Amazon region, we are embarking on an exciting period of expansion. If you have experience in managing security risks for environmental campaigners, human rights defenders and other civic actors, speak fluent Portuguese and currently live in or are from Latin America, we want to hear from you.

About the role

As a holistic security consultant, you’ll work closely with our safety and security lead and other consultants to deliver innovative projects for our diverse range of clients and recipients. We work with a wide range of social change agents, from individual environmental defenders and LGBT+ activists to small human rights groups and multinational agencies. They are generally high-threat, low capacity organisations and individuals, including in remote locations.

Projects will include providing security advice, producing risk assessments and security plans, and developing and delivering trainings, including on crisis management, security risk management, and holistic security. You will be working with under-resourced organisations and individuals facing serious physical and digital threats and under great stress; this means your work must be creative, innovative and tailored every single time.

To meet this need, our consultants are provided with consistent and comprehensive internal support on every assignment. This is delivered through a mix of technical advisory, client insight and sector experience.

The role is mostly remote but may occasionally involve travel to remote locations. Work will be ad hoc and dependent on client contracts or funding. Your day rate is negotiable but will be in line with the sector and your level of experience.

How to apply

If you are interested in the role and fit the candidate profile, including the language requirements, please send your CV and a cover letter, both in English, to our safety and security lead, [email protected].

The role will remain open until suitable candidates are recruited.
