Over 150 organisations have come together to combat the global crackdown on civic space. Coalition members include big players, such as Greenpeace International, Save the Children and Oxfam International; our colleagues in the protection ecosystem; and civil society organisations across Asia, Africa and Latin America. Together, we aim to secure crucial short- and long-term victories to increase civil society’s resilience to attacks and reclaim civic space.

Celebrating women humanitarians on World Humanitarian Day
On World Humanitarian Day this year, we recognise and honour in particular women humanitarians. Often the first to respond and the last to leave, these unsung heroes are working on the front lines in some of the most difficult contexts. Open Briefing is delighted to announce that we have become a voting member of CIVICUS. This global alliance of over 8,000 civil society organisations and activists in 175 countries is dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society throughout the world. Open Briefing and CIVICUS share a belief that when we join forces in our diversity, we build meaningful momentum to tackle the challenges humanity faces. As a voting member, we will input into the alliance's strategic priorities and play a leadership role in key activities.

It is essential that our new advisory board is representative of the people that most need our support. Furthermore, we believe that when we join forces in our diversity, we can overcome the 'staleness' so often associated with boards, and instead spark creativity, excitement and momentum. Call to support effective funding for the safety and security of aid workers
Open Briefing has signed an open letter from the European Interagency Security Forum (EISF) calling on non-governmental and donor organisations to address the ineffective financing of safety and security for aid workers. In continuing to treat security risk management as a general administrative cost rather than its own justifiable function with unique budget lines, both NGOs and donors risk falling short of their duty of care.

Open Briefing has recently been accepted as a member of the Mental Health Innovation Network. Founded by Global Affairs Canada and jointly led by the WHO and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, aims to facilitate the development and uptake of effective mental health interventions.
Open Briefing supports the 2019 International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) as an opportunity to raise awareness of the human rights of LGBTI people and celebrate our diversity. This year's IDAHOT on 17 May is focussed on justice and protection for all. Open Briefing is striving to be an active LGBTI ally, and is pursuing a number of projects and internal initiatives designed to make us even more effective.
